During the summer vacation of this year, United College will provide part of the hostel places for renting by external organisations (e.g. CUHK units, local schools, non-profit registered organizations and charity bodies) to organize non-profit-making activities of educational, cultural, moral and/or civic education. The opening period is from 1 June to 31 July 2025. Discount rate will be given to the external organisations that rented our hostels previously, CUHK academic and administrative units. The rooms assigned to successful applicants are not to be exchanged or sub-let to others. The hostel places vacated by non-local undergraduate opting to relinquish their rooms will be assigned by the college to non-local undergraduates on the waiting list.

UC students who have compelling reasons to stay on campus during the summer break can apply via webform. moreDr The Honourable Lee Shau Kee, GBM, a former member of the Board of Trustees of United College, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), passed away on 17 March 2025, at the age of 97. The College is deeply saddened by the passing of Dr Lee and conveys its deepest condolences to his family.
Dr Lee Shau Kee served as a Trustee of United College at CUHK from 1988 and as a member of the College Endowment Fund Committee starting in 1992, until his retirement in 2021. Dr Lee generously donated significant sums to CUHK to nurture outstanding talent and advance academic development, including establishing the “Lee Shau Kee Education Foundation” Scholarship, which supports underprivileged students in pursuing overseas studies and cultivating exceptional individuals.
Dr Lee dedicated his life to fostering economic prosperity in Hong Kong, China, and the Asia-Pacific region. His kind and virtuous character earned him deep respect and admiration.
moreUnited College is now inviting volunteers from University full-time staff or full-time postgraduate students, who are interested in the promotion of experiential learning amongst students and the enrichment of hostel life, to serve as Resident Tutors for the academic year 2025-2026. Please read the requirements and duties of a resident tutor as below.
Resident Tutor is not an employment with the University. There will not be any allowance/remuneration or any other employee benefits for provision of this volunteer service. The nominated Resident Tutor will be provided with a free single room in one of the United College student hostels. The service period will start in August 2025 and last for one year.

Professor Soll will visit our college from 12 March to 22 March 2025.
Professor Jacob Soll is a leading historian, public intellectual and a University Professor and Professor of Philosophy, History, and Accounting at the University of Southern California. His work spans the history of political thought, the history of accounting, and the role of information in the development of modern states. Much of his work has been animated by the question of why succeed or fail, and the lessons these historical cases can teach us. His sage advice on economic questions is regularly sought by policy makers throughout the world. Professor Soll’s works are widely recognized by the academia, and he has been awarded several distinguished fellowships and lectureships throughout the world, namely a MacArthur Fellowship, a Guggenheim Fellowship, a Fernand Braudel Senior Fellowship at the European University Institute in Florence and the Huygens-Descartes Lectureship at the Akadamie van Wetenschappen in Amsterdam.
