Young Fellowship Academy – High Table Dinner

The United College, CUHK – Hertford College, University of Oxford ‘Young Fellowship Academy’ held the 1st High Table Dinner on 7 October 2024 at Hyatt Regency Hong Kong, Sha Tin. 11 Young Fellows-to-be and five Senior Mentors of the Academy participated in the dinner and had an enjoyable gathering.
Professor Stephen H S Wong, College Head, officiated the event with a warm welcome address, highlighting the dinner as a signature activity of the Academy. The dinner provided an opportunity for Young Fellows-to-be to engage directly with Senior Mentors and deepen their mutual understanding. He also expressed his heartfelt gratitude to have Dr the Honourable Ko Wing Man, GBS, JP, Member of the Standing Committee of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and Member of the Executive Council of Hong Kong, as the Keynote Speaker, as our Honourable Guest.

Introduction of the 12 Senior Mentors of 2024-2025 by Professor Martin C S Wong, Associate Head and Dean of Students.
Following Head’s speech, Dr Ko and Dr Chan shared their personal experiences and leadership insights with all the participants. Dr Ko shared his career journey, considerations, choices, and experiences at different stages of his life, encouraging the Young Fellows-to-be to embrace the unlimited possibilities with an open mind.

Ms Lina H Y Yan, Chairman of United College Board of Trustees, Mr Simon K C Lee, Vice-Chairman of United College Board of Trustees, Professor Fung Kwok Pui, Chairman of the Endowment Fund Committee of United College, Professor Stephen H S Wong, College Head, and Professor Martin C S Wong, Associate Head and Dean of Students of United College, presented souvenirs to our honourable guest and expressed College’s gratitude for the staunch support to the programme.

The dinner was a precious occasion and a valuable training opportunity for all the Young Fellows-to-be, allowing them to build close relationships with Senior Mentors. The College is glad to see the Young Fellows-to-be wearing their academic gowns, showing confidence at the banquet, and being keen in the communications with different guests. It is hoped that the Young Fellows-to-be will learn from their mentors and repay our society, eventually becoming a competent United College Young Fellows in the near future.
