UC Toastmasters Club – Guide Your Journey of Public Speaking

Under the leadership of the new President, Ms Fung Wan Wai (Law/Year 2; far right in picture below), a total of seven UC students formed the new cabinet of the 20th United College Toastmasters Club. To facilitate smoother operations in the upcoming academic year, the new executive committee held a meeting for UC students on 29 June 2024, receiving assistance and staunch support from several experienced Toastmasters from other Hong Kong clubs. The new cabinet plans to conduct a series of promotions starting in September 2024, encouraging more students to participate in the United College Toastmasters Club meetings.

Furthermore, College student, Mr Alonso S C Ng, Sergeant-at-arm of the United College Toastmasters Club 2024-2025, recently participated in the 2024 Haikou Conference organised by District 89 Toastmasters. This district encompasses Hong Kong, Macau, Fujian, Hainan, and part of Guangdong, China. This conference served as an outstanding platform for members to enhance their communication, public speaking and leadership skills. The event, held in Haikou, China, attracted Toastmasters from various clubs and districts. Attendees had the opportunity to engage in workshops, attend keynote speeches, and participate in educational sessions focused on communication, leadership, and personal development. For Alonso, it was a valuable occasion to network with fellow Toastmasters, exchange ideas, and establish meaningful connections.

Being able to be a part of this 5-day, 4-night trip was a surreal and incredible experience. Listening to a speech given by the world’s public speaking champion, meeting workplace experts from around the world, and having conversations with the leaders of the Toastmasters club made my trip spectacular. All thanks to the UC Toastmasters Club for inviting me to join this year’s Haikou conference, which opened my eyes and brought me a lot of fun! I hope I can be part of it again next time for more exposure!
