Launch of UC Young Fellowship Academy

In 2024, the College launched the new student programme ‘United College, CUHK – Hertford College, University of Oxford – Young Fellowship Academy’, The programme aims to prepare outstanding UC students for a globalised world and empower them to reach new heights.

This year, 12 Young Fellows-to-be (YFBs) were selected through interviews held in February 2024. The YFBs are envisioned as future leaders who will make positive impact on the campus community and beyond through their leadership, contributions, and excellence in academic and services.

To enhance the self-awareness and leadership abilities of YFBs, as well as foster cohesion and teamwork among them, the College organised a two-day-one-night training camp at the Po Leung Kuk Pak Tam Chung Holiday Camp from 4 to 5 March 2024. The YFBs participated in various team building and leadership training activities. The College was honoured to have Dr Cinnie Chu, a college alumnus, share insights and guide the YFBs on better understanding themselves.

Dr Cinnie Chu shared with the YFBs.

In the evening, students displayed their ingenuity by preparing a dish called “Paper Box Chicken”! Thanks to their cleverness, they were able to enjoy a great BBQ meal. The highlight of this camp was the water-based adventure, where YFBs faced the challenge of constructing a sturdy raft to accommodate all 12 YFBs for a river ride using limited time and resources. We were thrilled to see them successfully build up the raft and paddled down the river, making a perfect conclusion to the training camp.
