【College Assembly】Learn Analytical Skills from Debate Match
United College Cantonese Debate Team invited The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology Debate Team for a friendly debate match on 29 January 2021 at Sir Run Run Shaw Hall. The motion of the debate was on the “Easiness of Life in Different Periods of Time in Hong Kong”.
Dr Lee Lok-man, Assistant Professor of School of Arts and Social Sciences, The Open University of Hong Kong; Dr Tong Tsz-ben, Assistant Professor of School of Arts and Social Sciences, The Open University of Hong Kong and Dr Chan Chu-kwong, Assistant Professor of Department of Chinese Language Studies, The Education University of Hong Kong are the guest judges for the match. Dr Leung Tak-wah, the advisor of College Debate Team presented souvenirs to them.
Both sides embraced and defended their own positions. The affirmative side states the satisfaction in living in the 70s and negative side argued from the living standard of citizens in the 00s. The negative side won the match.
The friendly debate match not only gave practical experiences to college debate team students, it presented a lesson on analytical and critical thinking skills to the audience.
