8 Is my donation tax-deductible overseas?

Donations to the College are tax deductible in Canada. Please refer to below:

Friends from Canada may make their gifts through The Chinese University of Hong Kong.

CUHK has been recognised as a prescribed foreign university in Canada under Section 3503 of the Canadian Income Tax Regulations and was added according to Schedule VIII of the Regulations by Order-in-Council P.C. 2010-551. With an official receipt issued by CUHK, Canadian donations can be claimed against the taxable income according to subparagraph 110.1(1)(a)(vi) and paragraph 118.1(1)(f) of the Canadian Income Tax Act.

For other countries, whether a donation made by an overseas donor will be tax deductible will require checking of the laws and regulations of the country to which that donor is located. Donors are encouraged to seek their own legal/tax advice.

9 How does the College acknowledge the donors / donating organisations?

As a token of our gratitude to the donors, the College publishes the names of donors from time to time on various publications of the College, including their names, majors, and years of graduation (applicable to United College alumni), or names of the organisations, preferably in Chinese.

In addition, the College has established the “Patron Membership” to thank donors for their support. Please see here for details.

10 Can I donate anonymously?

Yes. If you wish to donate anonymously, please indicate it on the donation form.
