The appeal results and 2nd round hostel places allocation for UC regular-term residence 2024-2025

The appeal results and 2nd round hostel places allocation for UC regular-term residence 2024-2025 have been announced on 28 June 2024.  Please login by your CUHK email with the password which has been sent to you by email to view the results.

Successful applicants will receive their billing notification from the University Finance Office by email.  They are required to pay the hostel fees together with the tuition fees at the beginning of the new academic year.  Those wishing to relinquish their hostel places must notify the Working Committee on Selection of Resident Students by email (hostel.uc@cuhk.edu.hk) before noon of 12 July 2024.  Otherwise, they will be disqualified from applying for hostel accommodation in the following academic year.

Residents who will reside in UC student hostels and wish to choose roommate(s) should submit applications by completing “Roommate(s) Selection Form” as below before noon of 12 July 2024.

For further information on check-in procedures, please refer to the “Guidelines for Registration at UC Student Hostels” as below.  For the students who will reside in I-House, the room allocation and check-in procedures will be informed by I-House Staff via email.

Summer Opening Hours of the Counter Services of Dean of Students’ Office

As the repair work for ceiling of the Dean of Students’ Office was completed by the Estates Management Office, the counter services of Dean of Students’ Office will be resumed normal from 17 June 2024. The summer opening hours from June to July are as follows:

Monday-Thursday 8:45 am – 1:00 pm
2:00 pm – 5:30 pm
Friday 8:45 am – 1:00 pm
2:00 pm – 5:45 pm

Renovation of United College Board Room

The Estates Management Office will conduct a renovation for College Board Room on 2/F, Tsang Shiu Tim Building, United College from 14 June 2024 (Fri) to 17 July 2024 (Wed). During the work period, noise and dust may be unavoidable. Please pay special attention when you enter the building.

Reunion Luncheon for Alumni Graduated for 40 Years or above

United College will organise a Reunion Luncheon for Alumni graduated for 40 years or above on 20 July 2024 (Saturday) at the Staff Canteen, Ground Floor, Cheung Chuk Shan Amenities Building, United College. Classes of 1984 or above are welcome to join this special occasion.

All alumni and their friends and relatives are welcome to join us. The luncheon fee is HK$250 per person. Alumni register on or before 17 June 2024 can enjoy an early bird discount of 20% ($200 per person after discount). Or alumni can also form a table of 12 people to enjoy a 20% discount on dinner fee ($2400 per table after discount). Registration deadline is 5 July 2024.

The application results for UC Regular-term Residence 2024-2025 have been announced on 31 May 2024. Please login by your CUHK email with the password to view the results.  The password has been sent to you by email.

Residents who will reside in UC student hostels and wish to choose roommate(s) should submit the following “Roommate(s) Selection Form” before noon of 12 July 2024.

Successful applicants wishing to relinquish their hostel places must notify the Working Committee on Selection of Resident Students by email (hostel.uc@cuhk.edu.hk) before noon of 12 July 2024Otherwise, they will be disqualified from applying for hostel accommodation in the following academic year.

Unsuccessful applicants may lodge appeals by submitting the following appeal application form to the Working Committee on Selection of Resident Students before noon of 7 June 2024 if they have special reasons not previously mentioned or need to submit documents as supplementary information.  Appeal results and second-round allocation will be announced on the College website on 28 June 2024.

Admission Scholarship for Non-local Year one students (through Non-JUPAS)

Shum Wai Yau and Kong Fook To Belt and Road First-in-the-Family Tertiary Education Admission Scholarship aims at encouraging the United College non-local Year-one students who come from Belt and Road countries and are the first generation in the family to actively participate in various college activities on campus as well as striving for study time for better academic results. Each successful applicant will be awarded HK$20,000 and the scholarship is renewable in the normative period of study for a maximum tenure of 4 years according to good academic result and conduct.

Interested students please read the application details and apply on-line at the College webpage during the period from 16 September to 5:30pm of 27 September 2024.  Short-listed candidates will be invited for an interview in October.

Summer Opening Hours of UC Canteens

From 20 May to 17 August, 2024, the summer opening hours of United College Student and Staff Canteen will be as below:

Student Canteen
Monday- Saturday:      11:00 am – 8:00 pm
Sunday and Public Holidays:   Closed

Staff Canteen
Monday-Friday:      11:00 am – 2:00 pm
Saturday, Sunday and Public Holidays: Closed

Tea House will be closed from 1 June to 12 August, 2024.

The College canteens will be closed from 1 to 22 June, 2024 for annual maintenance.

End of Regular Term Residence of UC Student Hostels 2023-2024

The check-out date of regular term residence will be on 17 May 2024 (Friday) at 12:00 noon.  Every resident should complete the check-out procedure and return room key at hostel counter on or before the check-out date.  Only the residents who will be returning for summer residence beginning on 20 May will be permitted to check out of their hostels at 12:00 noon on 20 May 2024.

Please read the check-out notice carefully and complete the “Hostel Deposit Refund Form”.  The forms can be collected from the hostel counter.

Application for Rental of United College Hostel by External Organisations 2024

During the summer vacation of this year, United College will provide part of the hostel places for renting by external organisations (e.g. CUHK units, local schools, non-profit registered organizations and charity bodies) to organize non-profit-making activities of educational, cultural, moral and/or civic education.  The opening period is from 1 June to 31 July 2024.  Discount rate will be given to the external organisations that rented our hostels previously, CUHK academic and administrative units. For details, please read the following “Application Guidelines”.

Application for Regular-term UC student hostel accommodation in 2024-2025 opens from 26 March to 12:00 noon of 19 April 2024.  UC students who want to experience the hostel life can apply via webform. Relevant documents should be uploaded together as instructed. Non-local students (except those promoting to year 3 in 2024-2025) should also submit the webform and required documents during the same application period. Updated Service Hours of the Creative Media Studio, Tien Chi Microcomputer Laboratory

The Creative Media Studio of the Tien Chi Microcomputer Laboratory, United College provides a versatile space for UC students. In addition to facilitating various types of productions, the studio can also be transformed into a venue for hosting activities. The studio currently offers the following services:

► Record Video Resumes | Portrait / Product Photography | Sound recording & mixing | Video recording & Live Streaming
►Tailor-made shooting plans (subject to service charge)

The service hours of the Creative Media Studio have been extended to weekday evenings and Saturdays. Students who would like to use the studio can now fill out an online form to make a reservation. The updated service hours are as follows:

Tien Chi Microcomputer Laboratory of the is now offering the Portable Solid State Drive (SSD) borrowing service. UC student may come to the lab in-person and present valid CUlink to College staff on duty at the lab, complete an online booking form, and pay deposit for borrowing the SSD!
