United College UChum Programme

United College Student Wellness Program has organized UChum – College Peer Support Ambassador Programme. The aim is to recruit those who are willing to be companions and are interested in wellness to organize various activities for fellow students. This helps to reduce the stress of life and study, while also providing mutual support and companionship on the path of growth.

UChum – College Peer Support Ambassadors will officially accept applications in November 2024. If you are a full-time undergraduate student at United College and:

  • Are passionate and care about others’ feelings
  • Are interested in learning effective communication and helping skills
  • Are willing to help fellow students in need

Then we sincerely invite you to join UChum! You can:

  • Meet new friends and build friendships with UChum members from different disciplines within the college
  • Participate in a 12-hour basic mental health first aid course
  • Discover different aspects of yourself
  • Receive training on mental health and basic counseling skills
  • Conceive and implement your ideas with full support from the college

Service Content:

  • Regularly organize service projects/activities, produce related short videos, manage UChum social platforms (@uc_chummy), etc., to raise awareness of mental health among college staff and students
  • Assist the college in organizing activities related to mental and physical health
  • Help new students or peers adapt to and integrate into university life

Upon Completion of the Service Plan:

  • Receive a “Basic Mental Health First Aid Course” certificate
  • Be awarded a certificate of commendation from the college
  • Outstanding members may be nominated for college scholarships and/or CUHK Outstanding Student Awards
  • Have the opportunity to be recommended for internships related to mental health with local organizations

Activity details and requirements will be confirmed later (Term: December 2024 to January 2026). All selected members must attend all training sessions, adventure training camps, supervision sessions, and related activities (mainly conducted in Cantonese).

Applicants may be invited to attend an interview.

The tentative interview date is the afternoon of December 3, 2024. Please reserve this time but let us know if you have any difficulties.

Selected students will be notified by email by 6 December 2024. Participants must sign a confirmation letter at Dean of Students’ Office by noon on 11 December 2024, and pay a deposit of HKD $100, which will be fully refunded upon meeting the training and service requirements.
