Harmonious Passage Charity Fundraising Concert to Support Student Wellness

United College Choir performed with In-heritage Philharmonic Orchestra.

The Harmonious Passage Charity Fundraising Concert, organised by the In-heritage Philharmonic and supported by the In-heritage Artistic Cultural Education Development and United College, was held on 23 September 2024 at the Concert Hall in the Hong Kong City Hall. The concert aimed to raise funds for promoting students’ awareness on mental health, enhancing their knowledge of mental health and first aid skills, and encouraging them to seek help when needed.

The concert featured a remarkable lineup, with Mr Ding Fan, the Artistic Director of In-heritage Philharmonic, serving as the conductor. The guest performers, including Mr Albert Au, Mr Tam Fai Chi, and other talented musicians, delivered an outstanding performance that night. The United College Choir performed two songs. The first song, When I Grow Up, is a captivating piece from the musical, Matilda, that beautifully captures children’s aspirations as they dream about adulthood. The second song, The Brightest Star in the Night Sky, is a Mandarin pop song specially rearranged by the In-heritage Philharmonic for the Concert. The audience was immensely captivated by the United College Choir’s performances.

Professor Stephen H S Wong, College Head, delivered a heartfelt speech, expressing gratitude to distinguished guests, staff, alumni, and students. He highlighted the elevating level of stress faced by many students due to increasing challenges in their studies and personal lives, emphasising the need for the College to enhance students’ mental health knowledge and provide support. Since 2021, United College has been implementing the Student Wellness Programme. The programme trains students as Peer Support Ambassadors who support their peers and organise workshops that encourage open discussions about mental health, aiming to destigmatise mental illnesses. Ultimately, the programme aims to establish a mental health-friendly campus.
