CUHK Alumni Homecoming cum United College Head’s Dinner 2023
The CUHK Alumni Homecoming cum United College Head’s Dinner 2023 was held on 2 December 2023. A game booth, with the theme of “Building on the Past, Embracing Innovation Together”, was set up by The United College Alumni Association (UCAA) at the University Mall, CUHK, aiming to attract alumni and their families to participate by offering game and attractive gifts. United College alumni were also welcomed to join the association on-site, with a special 50% discount on lifetime membership fees.
Led by College students, United College arranged guided campus tours for the alumni and their family members in the afternoon. The tour included visits to various facilities on campus, such as Shum Choi Sang United College Archives, Tien Chi Microcomputer Laboratory and Creative Media Studio, Wu Chung Library, sports facilities, and Chan Chun Ha Hostel. Alumni expressed that it had been a long time since they had set foot on the campus and were impressed to see various new developments on United College campus, praising the changes and enhancements.
In the evening, Professor Stephen H S Wong, College Head, hosted a dinner banquet for the College alumni and their families at the UC Student Canteen. The College also prepared souvenirs for all participating alumni. With the staunch support of the UC alumni, a total of 16 tables were served, with over 190 guests, alumni, and their families joining this big reunion. A number of overseas alumni, who came back to alma mater to join the CUHK 60th Anniversary activities, also joined this dinner banquet. The event began with the guest introduction by two Masters of Ceremonies, Ms Lee Siu Hoi, Consultant of UCAA, and Mr Lau Yuk, Executive Committee Member of UCAA. When all the guests and alumni sang the United College song together, the sound of the song resonated and the alumni were deeply moved by the rare opportunity to sing the college song together. Then, Professor Stephen H S Wong, College Head, and Mr Simon K C Lee, President of UCAA, delivered welcoming speeches. Professor Wong specifically thanked the overseas alumni for their long journeys back to their alma mater to attend the dinner.
After the speeches, guests including Ms Lina Yan, Chairman of the College Board of Trustees, Professor Stephen H S Wong, College Head, Mr Simon K C Lee, President of UCAA, Professor Fung Kwok Pui, College Honorary Fellow, Professor Martin C S Wong, Associate College Head and Dean of Students, Dr Leung Tak Wah, Associate Dean of General Education, Mr John K H Lee, Council Chairman of the UCAA, Mr Enders W H Lam and Mr Mingles M T Tsoi, Council Vice-Chairmen of the UCAA, and Dr Tony Chan, College Secretary, hosted a toasting to kick off the dinner banquet.
After the challenges posed by the pandemic, this was the first large-scale alumni dinner event, and the gathering of everyone was truly precious!
