Closing Ceremony of GEUC2018 “Leadership in Practice” 2024-2025 Term 1

The College held the Closing Ceremony for GEUC2018 “Leadership in Practice” course for Term 1, 2024-2025 at Si Yuan Amenities Centre on 31 October 2024. This course is part of the College General Education curriculum, aimed at broadening students’ knowledge beyond their major studies. It is co-organised by the College and the Leadership Training Institute of the Scout Association, with generous funding from the WEDO Leadership Development Programme, established by Ms Lina H Y Yan, Chairman of the College Board of Trustees.

Unlike traditional classroom teaching, “Leadership in Practice” course allows students to learn and practice leadership skills through various outdoor adventurous activities, such as training camp. This year, the course uniquely incorporated a service-learning element during a two-day training camp. Through the newly added “trail maintenance” activity, students engaged in service-learning focused on environmental protection, enhancing their understanding of sustainability and their sense of responsibility. They also learned effective communication and collaboration skills, leveraging the strengths of each team member. This improved their leadership abilities and strengthened their teamwork spirit, making each student aware of the importance of environmental protection.

At the Closing Ceremony, Ms Lina H Y Yan, Chairman of the College Board of Trustees and donor of WEDO Leadership Development Programme; Professor Stephen H S Wong, College Head; Professor Lee Hung Kay, Associate College Head and Dean of General Education; and representatives from the Leadership Training Institute of the Scout Association, including Dr Simon S H Ho, Assistant Chief Commissioner (Adults in Scouting); Mr Hong Po Sum, Chairman of Programme Committee; and Mr Lung Ka Chun, Headquarters Commissioner (Education), attended the event and presented certificates of completion to the students. They encouraged the students to apply their knowledge in daily life and contribute to the development of the College and society.
