“United College of Hong Kong” was founded in 1956 with the amalgamation of five colleges: Canton Overseas, Kwand Hsia, Wah Kiu, Wen Hua and Ping Jing.

Naming Ceremony of the “United College Shum Choi Sang Mentorship Programme” was held during the Inauguration Ceremony of the sixth session of the Mentorship Programme 2005-2006 at Regal Kowloon Hotel. Mr Shum Choi Sang donated HK$1.5 million to set up the fund for future development of the programme.

Dr Thomas H C Cheung stepped down from the Chairman of the Alumni Association of United College. To show the College’s heartfelt appreciation for Dr Cheung’s sterling contribution to the alumni affairs of the College over the past 44 years, Mr Shum Choi-sang, Former Chairman of the Board of Trustee hosted a dinner at Shanghai Fraternity Association.

To extend warmest welcome and to pay tribute to Professor Charles K Kao, the 2009 Nobel Prize Winner in Physics, the College hosted a dinner banquet in his honour at the College Staff Common Room.

United College Staff Residence was established in February 1976. Former and current tenants and their families of the residence were invited to celebrate its 35th Anniversary at the reunion party.

United College, Morningside College and the Kamenori Foundation jointly organised a Kamenori Earth Youth Summit (KEYS) to celebrate the 55th Anniversary of United College and the 5th Anniversary of the Kamenori Foundation of Japan.

Professor Steven Chu, William R Kenan, Jr Professor of Physics and Professor of Molecular and Cellular Physiology, Stanford University, USA, visited the College as the College’s Distinguished Visiting Scholar in 2016-2017.

The College invited the Honourable John C Tsang, Financial Secretary of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region as the guest speaker to deliver a talk on the topic of “Story of a Public Servant” for the 60th Anniversary Talk of United College.

The College and the Kamenori Foundation jointly organised a Kamenori Earth Youth Summit (KEYS) to celebrate the College 60th Anniversary and the 10th Anniversary of the Kamenori Foundation in Japan. Thirty-two students from the selected Asian countries or regions including China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam conducted group academic research on the main theme “Current Issues and Prospects for Tomorrow’s Asia – Towards One Asia”.
