Chan Chun Ha Hostel Renovation Project
In 2024, Chan Chun Ha Hostel (CCHH) will celebrate its 20th anniversary. The College has planned to renovate the open space first floor of CCHH, converting it into an indoor space. The common facilities that are at present located on the second, third, and ninth floors, such as the reading room, music room, and multi-purpose space, will be reconfigured on the first floor. The existing space on these floors will be transformed into additional dormitory rooms, aiming to add another ten or more hostel places.
The College has entrusted a project consultant to submit a design proposal, and the entire project is expected to be completed during the summer break of 2025, with a budget exceeding eight million Hong Kong dollars.
The United College Pavilion Maintenance Project
The United College Pavilion was gifted by Ms Eva Li, emeritus Senior Lecturer of Department of Social Work, as one of the featured buildings of a campus enhancement project decades ago. The design of the project was based on a core value of the College – “be liberal and open”, with a pavilion of natural structure which smoothly integrated with the surrounding environment and plants, embellishing the campus.
As an outdoor building, the pavilion has deteriorated significantly in recent years. Particularly in 2018, Typhoon Mangkhut destroyed its major structure, that it could no longer be repaired and would cause danger to users. In light of the situation, the College suggested rebuilding the pavilion and invited Professor Zhu Jingxiang to propose a suitable design for the pavilion. The new design will pay attention to the sustainability of the building, the efficiency of its assembly, and its integration with the campus environment. The new pavilion is expected to complete during the summer break of 2024. The project is estimated to cost nearly one million Hong Kong dollars.
