Build a Diverse and Inclusive College Environment
To promote diversity and inclusivity, as well as to assist non-local students in integrating into College life, Professor Stephen H S Wong, College Head and the College Management Team invited student representatives from United College Student Union, United Club and Mainland Student Association to had a tea gathering on 10 November 2023 at Si Yuan Amenities Centre. During the gathering, student representatives actively expressed their opinions and thoughts, allowing the College to know more about the challenges faced by non-local students. This insight will aid in the formulation of College policies that better cater for the needs of non-local students, fostering an inclusive and understanding learning environment that enriches the College experience for all students.
To exchange ideas on further promoting diversity and inclusion in the campus, the Committee on Inclusive Excellence organised a tea gathering on 5 December 2023. Apart from the Committee Members, wardens and colleagues who had completed the online course, Diversity and Inclusion: Unconscious Bias were also invited to share their thoughts.
After the tea gathering, participants paid a visit to the Music Room and Multifaith Prayer Room in Adam Schall Residence. The room not only exemplify the College’s commitment to providing inclusive spaces for students of diverse backgrounds, it also encourages mutual respect and acceptance of different cultures of beliefs among students.
The newly established Funding Scheme for Enhancing Diversity and Inclusiveness encourages student organisations registered under United College Student Union or affiliated under United College organising activities that help creating a diverse and inclusive campus.
